Our Journey

We launched our first store in Malad - Mumbai, which is spread over 1,25,000 sq. ft.  Since its inception, we have opened a total of 19 stores and have marked our presence in major cities like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Delhi, Noida, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Amritsar, Pune, Ahmedabad and Vadodara. More than 20 lakh customers visit our stores every month.

Mr. B. S Nagesh


Chairman and Non-Executive Director

Mr. B. S. Nagesh, 56, is the Chairman and Non–Executive Director of HyperCITY. He holds a ‘Master in Management Studies’ degree from the Benaras Hindu University. Also the Vice Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Shoppers Stop Ltd., he has been with the SSL Company since its inception in 1991. As Vice Chairman, he continues to be a strategic advisor to the management. He was instrumental in ushering international brands like M.A.C, Mothercare into retail business, has helped in setting up a joint venture with The Nuance Group AG of Switzerland for airport retailing and also with Leisure and Alliance Industries of Australia, for family entertainment centers. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of Crossword Bookstore Ltd in 2005.


Mr. Nagesh was selected among the ‘Top 50 Managers in India’ who can “influence Indian business in the 21st Century” by Business India. He has also been awarded ‘The Retail Professional of the Year' by CMAI for four consecutive years. He is the recipient of the 'Top CEO Award 2001' by Institute of Marketing Management. Mr. Nagesh is the only Indian Retailer to be inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame at World Retail Congress 2008 at Barcelona. He has also been inducted into the Indian Retail Hall of Fame in October 2012 at IRF. He also founded TRRAIN in 2011 which is a “not for profit” organisation working towards ‘empowering people in Retail’.

Mr. Ravi C. Raheja


Non-Executive Director

Mr. Ravi C. Raheja, 43, is the Non-Executive Director of HyperCITY. A management graduate from London Business School, he has over 20 years industry experience with special focus on the group’s Real Estate & Retail arm. Designated as the Group President at the K. Raheja Corp, Mr. Raheja overlooks the retail, real estate and hospitality business of the group guiding the team on Finance, Corporate Strategy and Planning. He is actively involved in charting future growth strategies. He is currently involved in planning large townships, SEZ, IT Parks and luxury hotels in the country. He is also handling the strategic entry of the group into infrastructure and other new initiatives. Mr. Raheja is also the Chairman of Green Building Council (Mumbai Chapter) and member of the World Economic Forum.

Mr. Neel Raheja


Non-Executive Director

Mr. Neel Raheja, 40, is the Non-Executive Director of HyperCITY. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Masters in Commerce and Law Graduate from Mumbai University and has over 16 years of experience in real estate development, hospitality and retail. Mr. Raheja plays a leadership role in the K. Raheja Corp real estate development business. He has visualized and developed the “Inorbit” shopping mall at Malad. He also takes active interest in the customer satisfaction and human development part of Shoppers Stop business.

Mr. Deepak Ghaisas


Independent and Non-Executive Director

Mr. Deepak Ghaisas, 57, is the Independent and Non-Executive Director of HyperCITY. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and Company Secretary. He leads strategy development, visioning and conceptualisation of breakthrough business models for Gencoval Group, his new venture in Healthcare and Bio Tech. Prior to Gencoval, he has served as the Vice Chairman of Oracle Financial Services Software Limited (formerly known as i-Flex Solutions Limited, India). It was his strategic, financial and operational acumen that drove the company into a true Indian multinational. Mr. Ghaisas is the first Indian CFO to be felicitated with the prestigious CFO Asia award.

Prof. Nitin J. Sanghavi


Independent and Non-Executive Director

Mr. Nitin holds a Bachelor’s from Saurashtra University, a Master’s and PhD from the University of Manchester. A Professor of Retail Marketing and Strategy at Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester, he brings immense wisdom as an educator and experience in retailing of over 32 years to our board.

He has held senior positions in buying, merchandising, operations and commercial areas for major organizations in UK and overseas.

He has also held a number of visiting appointments at top universities around the world, as well as Visiting Scholar/Professor at Harvard Business School and now at IIMA and Great Lakes Institute of Management in India. He also acts as a strategic advisor to the boards of many blue-chip retail organizations in UK, USA, Europe, Middle East and India. He has been an advisor to the British Council and Commonwealth Secretariat and Special Advisor to the World Bank on Retailing. He was given the Retail Leadership Award and an award for Retail Excellence by the Asia Retail Congress and was presented with the “Glory of India Award” by Indo-British Society for outstanding contribution to both countries.

Mr. Govind Shrikhande


Non-Executive Director

Mr. Govind Shrikhande, 54, is the Non-Executive Director of HyperCITY. He is a graduate of Technology from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai, and is a management graduate from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune. He is Managing Director of Shoppers Stop Ltd.

Mr. Shrikhande has been with SSL Company for more than eleven years and has played a key role in its growth from 7 stores in 2000 to 88 stores (including HomeStop stores) till date and was also instrumental in re-branding initiative of the Department Store format – Shoppers Stop in the year 2008, which reinvigorated the brand market positioning, product and service offerings.

Mr. Shrikhande’s strong performance as head of Shoppers Stop, his passion for developing innovative products and services, and his emphasis on creating an enjoyable workplace for employees was recognised in 2009 with the prestigious Clothing Manufacturers of India “Retail Professional of The Year” Award and the “Most Admired Fashion Retail Professional of the Year Award” at the IFA 2010. Before joining Shoppers Stop, Mr. Shrikhande spent more than 16 years working in leading textile and apparel companies, such as Mafatlal, Arvind, Arrow and Bombay Dyeing.

Ms. Ameesha Prabhu


Non-Executive Director

With over 22 years of experience in retail, Ms. Ameesha Prabhu is also the CEO of Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN). While shouldering the responsibilities of driving all the initiatives of TRRAIN, she also brings her expertise to HyperCITY.

She brings her in-depth understanding of Buying & Merchandising functions along with end-to-end Category Management and has also worked with leading organizations such as Tesco Hindustan Wholesaling Ltd, Aditya Birla Retail, Crossword Bookstores Ltd., Swatch Group and Shoppers Stop Ltd. Ms. Ameesha is also on the Board of Crossword Bookstores Ltd., a fellow subsidiary Company. Her understanding of the retail environment, as well as her empathy with the front-end associates, is the result of her personal journey from the shop floor to being the Head of Buying.

Mr. Ramesh Menon


Chief Executive Officer

Ramesh Menon is the Chief Executive Officer at HyperCITY Retail (India) Ltd. where he is responsible for leading the company's growth strategy and path to profitability.

With cross cultural experience of over 25 years, Ramesh Menon has a varied and rich experience across multinationals and family owned professionally run organizations in India, Middle East and Africa. Having worked across FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing and Telecom sectors, he has an extensive background and experience of complex and challenging environments, Start-ups, Turnarounds and situations involving management restructuring and team building.

Prior to joining HyperCity, he was the National Head Wireless (GSM) Operations at Reliance Communications and Hub CEO (West), at Bharti Airtel Ltd. He was an integral part of the team that set up Spencer's Retail Ltd., as it’s first Head of Operations. He has also had stints with ITC Ltd., Colgate Palmolive and PepsiCo in various capacities in Sales& Marketing.

Mr. Hemant Taware


Chief Operating Officer

With a career in retail and FMCG spanning well over 22 years, Hemant Taware, COO, HyperCITY Retail India has 14 years’ experience in Modern Retail (Departmental Stores, Food & Grocery Hypermarkets and Supermarkets) and Speciality retailing (CDIT & Mobiles). His proficiency lies in areas such as Managed Direct Sales, Channel Sales, Marketing, Store Operations, Buying & Merchandising, Store Development, Store Planning Projects & Program Management.

He has worked with Aditya Birla Retail Ltd, where he not only managed the execution & roll-out but also handled the multi-location network of stores including CROMA – The Electronics Megastore. During his stint with CROMA, he was also responsible for the expansion of the store network from 7 to 100 and a turnover growth from 300cr to 3000cr as a Chief of Operations. This included amongst others, The Mobile Store where he managed a 1000 store network across the length and breadth of the country (Store Operations, Franchisee Network expansion, Business Development, Marketing and eventually Buying and Merchandising for the country’s’ largest Mobile phone retailer).

Mr. Manoj Jain


Vice President, Marketing, Loyalty & Visual Merchandising

He has gained an extensive experience over 15 years of work in marketing and sales verticals with expertise in Brand management, Marketing, New product launches , Trade /Consumer Promotions and Media planning at RIL, Future Group, TCL & Alcaltel Mobiles India, Jubilant Corporation & Star TV. ‎Having worked across the country, as a marketer, he possesses a deep understanding of the unique nuances of each region and state in India. Most recently he was the General Manager: Marketing & Customer Plan Strategy at Reliance Retail‎ where he was instrumental in formulating marketing strategies at national & regional levels for Reliance Retail to effectively penetrate the market in line with the business expansion plan. He saw the business double over the past 5 years that he served the organization.

Prior to that, he was part of the Corporate Marketing team at Pantaloon Retail India Ltd. (earlier Home Solutions Retail India ltd) & worked on brands like Big Bazaar , E Zone & Future Bazaar.com.

He brings aboard experience in Lifestyle, Value & E Commerce formats. He has worked and been a part of several iconic retail promotion properties like the Sabse Sasta 3 days/Mahabachat/The Great Exchange / Blind Fold Sale/12 Hours shopping festival /48 Hours Zero Margin Sale/Master Class Events & launched /re branded several stores/formats across 95 cities in his career span.

During his tenure with Reliance Retail & Pantaloons, the brands featured amongst the Top Retail Brands in the country ( Eco Times: Brand Equity). He has worked with TCL & Alcaltel Mobiles India, Jubilant Corporation & Star TV in his earlier stints.

Mr. Yogesh Bisht


Vice President, Human Resource

Mr. Yogesh is a practicing HR Professional with over 21 years of experience in Hospitality, Retail and Real Estate Industry. In his previous assignments, he has been Group HR Head with AutoHangar India Pvt Ltd, Vice President- HR & Retail Operations with Staples Future Office Products Ltd., an Indo-US JV between Multibillion US conglomerate Staples and Future group, leading Indian retailer. He has worked as General Manager-HR, Sr. Manager HR with Reliance Retail, Sr. Manager- Training and Systems with Mars Restaurants Ltd.

He has been trained and certified in International training Skills from City & Guilds. He is also certified 16 PF (personality factor) and AVA (Activity Vector Analysis) psychometric test administrator.

Mr. Vijay Jain


Chief Finance Officer

Vijay is All India Ranker in CA Finals, with more than 14 years of experience. Currently working with Hypercity Retail (India) Ltd and was previously associated with Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd &Piramal Health Care Ltd.

He joined Hypercity when it had one store operational and since then is with the company for close to seven years. He currently heads the finance & accounts function.

Over the years he has played an important role as finance interface in implementing ERP’s/systems across business functions. He received certificate from Mr. Kumarmanglam Birla for implementation of Project Hyperion (ERP) in Aditya Birla Nuvo in 2003.

He was instrumental in designing the MIS system and formulating the business related financial processes of Hypercity. Automation, simplification and risk mitigation were key focus areas.

While managing Hypercity’s Banking & Treasury portfolio he brought in innovative credit products by leveraging resources to full potential. He was awarded Best Employee in 2010 by the management.

He was incharge of strategic project in relation to refining the business model which focussed on right locations, right sizing of stores, right product mix, right (optimizing) costs &maximising revenue potential. This has greatly helped Hypercity achieve Store level operational profitability and ultimately enabled company to achieve its first ever company level EBIDTA profits.

He also leads the Innovation project of the company.

He has also recently taken over the responsibility of the Legal Department at HyperCITY.

Mr. Yakeen Gazi


Senior Vice President, Information Technology & Logistics

With experience of over 20 years, Mr. Yakeen Gazi has expertise in managing IT function for companies in India as well as abroad. He has been associated with HyperCITY for more than 8 years and has gained expertise in varied areas like Central Merchandising, Institutional Business, Space on Hire and Central Operations. He has also worked with companies like Mattel Toys (I) Pvt. Ltd. and handled various project assignments in USA assigned at Unisys Federal System, Pepsi Co. NY and Kmart.

Mr. R.Sankar


VICE PRESIDENT, Buying and Merchandising - Food

Sankar comes with over 25 years of experience across Hospitality, FMCG and Retail industry. His category management experience spans across Food (Fresh, Processed, Beverages, Frozen) and Non-Food (Houseware, Furnishing, Lightings, FMCG) at Future Group, Reliance Retail and RPG (Food-world/ Great Wholesale).

Sankar in his last assignment was Heading the Processed Food Buying & Merchandising team at Big Bazaar.
